This is one of the simplest ways to make really tasty potatoes, Restovan krompir; A true Balkan tradition and a very creative way of spicing up potatoes. This simple yet delectable dish showcases the rich culinary heritage of the Balkan region. But, it’s slowly losing its space on many tables as it’s becoming less and less popular. I love traditional and original dishes and this blog celebrates amongst many others, those.
Restovan krompir has deep roots in Balkan cuisine, particularly in countries like Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The dish reflects the region’s cultural abundance and creativity of its people turning humble ingredients into really delicious dishes. If you come to the Balkans you’ll just be amazed at how ordinary ingredients are turned into beautiful, yet unique dishes. Take for example this Popara, where they make “porridge” out of old bread, a really interesting culinary experience.
Restovan krompir comprises just three main ingredients; potatoes, onion, and sweet paprika. You may also add garlic and herbs, which are optional ingredients.
Two ways to make restovan krompir
There are also two ways of making this dish. You may roast the potatoes or just fry them in the pan after everything has been added together. Both methods make the dish taste good, although the pan method is the quickest. With the roasted method, you’ll have a taste of roasted onion and potatoes. That’s a match made in heaven.
I urge you to tap into Balkan mode and make these potatoes, you will be surprised by how tasty they are. You may have them as a side or as a main dish. It’s perfect for when you’re not having meat, or while fasting, or a great side for a meat dish or however, you want to have them.
