If you love making jam, this blog is the perfect place, and this fig jam is a dream. Before I came to Serbia I had never made jam before, but now I can easily, and quickly whip up some jam. And even more, summer is so exciting because of all the fruit that come up individually to jam up (if that’s a phrase), so now it’s time for figs.
So I recently picked up some figs, but they were too many and a little too soft to eat all at once. Then I remembered, fig jam. This is one of my best jams, including strawberry and apricot jam. So here’s the how-to on fig jam. It’s simple and oh-my-goodness delicious. Also, this is a small batch, one bottle of jam which you can have immediately or store up for later.
Ingredients FOR FIG JAM
500g figs
1 Cup Sugar
Half lemon
1/4 Cup of water
Directions
- Cut up the figs into small pieces and add to a small pot
- Add sugar, water and simmer on low heat
- While simmering, add a 500ml bottle to boiling water in a container,(cap included) to sterilise.
- While the figs are cooking, make sure to stir and look out for the jam so it doesn’t stick to the pot.
- Add some lemon juice from the half-lemon
- Continue to stir until you get the required consistency. It should be glossy looking, and jam-like thick.
- Add the jam to the bottle, and enjoy when it cools down. You may also close it up and shelve it for later.
- Enjoy
