I look at this picture and start drooling, thinking of all the stuff I can make with pumpkin puree. I mean the possibilities are endless; from pumpkin cake to smoothies, and I can’t forget my favourite, Roasted pumpkin soup.
How to make pumpkin puree
Basically what you just do is blend cooked pumpkin. I don’t remember ever buying pumpkin puree, I mean it’s so easy to make. My mother made most of the things that people bought, she even canned peaches. So imagine me buying blended pumpkin…
I usually roast the pumpkin before blending it, roasting it gives it a depth of flavour I guess. You may cook it if you want, it will still be good.
In a step by step edition:
- Cut pumpkin in half
- Scoop out the seeds
- Place in an oven dish
- Roast for about 45 minutes or until its soft
Why make pumpkin puree
Besides the fact that it’s really easy to make, it tastes much better than store-bought. It’s just plain, pure pumpkin with no preservative or anything added. Therefore you know exactly what you are eating.
Which pumpkin to use
To make the puree you may use whatever kind of pumpkin is available; from squash to butternut. Whatever you choose that’s the flavor you’ll get, And, that’s what makes it so lovely making your own puree, you get to experiment with different flavours.

- 1 Pumpkin
Instructions
- Cut Pumpkin in half and remove all seeds
- Line an oven dish with paper and place the pumpkin
- Roast in a preheated oven on 180°C until its soft
- Remove from oven and scoop out pumpkin
- Put the pumpkin in a blender and blend until smooth
