It’s exciting to have different fruit and vegetables in different seasons because you get to look forward to the produce, I personally like the abundance and trying to preserve and be creative with what nature offers us. The apple season is one exciting; with so many apples and so many things to do with them. And so, this caramel apple galette is the first thing coming to mind this apple season.
One of my favourite things to do with apples is a galette or pie with freshly picked organic apples. Galettes are a special breed of their own because they are beautifully rustic as if it’s a work of art. It looks like there’s so much work done to it but in fact, it’s one of the easiest things to do.
With caramel added to this galette, you get fudgy notes of apple inside the crusty sugary pastry. It’s really so good, it never lasts long.
The aroma of the sweet apples mingled with the warm spices, combined with the velvety allure of the caramel, instantly creates an atmospheric day of summer in a kitchen smelling of pastry and fruit; warm, nostalgic, homely, and definitely a happy day full of a whole lot of apples and questions of what else to do with them.
The buttery, flaky crust
The success or secret of the galette lies heavily on the crust. The buttery, flaky crust adds a delicate crunch to each bite, marrying all the components together to create harmonious, delicate, marriage in your mouth. Basically, it’s important to have a really good crust or pastry because it’s the foundation of this dessert. The butter; the butter is the star of the pastry, no doubt. Butter, apple, caramel; total beautiful love triangle, period.
Customising your caramel apple galette
It’s obvious this recipe is just a guide and a door to a whole different world of galette flavours. Don’t be afraid to be creative and add your personal touch to this dessert. Please, customise. I mean it is a good recipe, so if you don’t add anything or remove, you’ll get a beautifully crafted dessert, no doubt. But, if you like spicy, feel free to increase the cinnamon, and add nutmeg, pecans go well in here too. The galette world is your oyster.
Caramel apple galette
Ingredients
Pastry
- 11/2 Cups Flour
- 125 g Cold cubed butter
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Very cold water
- Pinch of salt
Galette
- 2 Apples
- ¼ Tsp Cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 3 Tbsp Caramel
Instructions
- Cut apples into quaeter slices
- Add into a bowl and add remaining galette ingredients
- Roll the pastry and arrange apples in the middle, leaving space in the sides to fold in
- Once folded egg wash the sides of the pastry and sprinkle with sugar
- Bake the galette on 200℃for 40 to 45 minutes, until the fruit is tender and the pastry is golden brown
- Once done, drizzle with caramel and enjoy
