I’m a firm believer in making things from scratch. If it can be made better at home, why buy it. These meatballs in tomato sauce just don’t take time to make and they taste amazing. You know exactly what went into your food and how it was made. Plus, it’s a satisfying feeling of making something from start to finish, and have it taste as great as these meatballs.
In Serbian, this is called cufte u paradajs sosu. its quiet a popular dish here, though they tend to make the meatballs in tomato juice thickened with a roux. I’ll have the recipe on the blog soon, its different and delicious actually, somewhat homely.
Ingredients
The ingredients for these meatballs in tomato sauce are very easy to find if you don’t already have them in your pantry.
- I use 100% beef for these meatballs, you may mix beef and pork if you wish to.
- You may use fresh tomatoes instead of canned tomatoes, make sure that the tomatoes taste really good because they contribute a lot to the sauce
I use this Marinara sauce in this recipe. The sauce is the base of many of my recipes. It’s tasty and really simple. I jotted down the ingredients, but please check out the recipe for the sauce to see the full instructions.
After putting the meatballs in the sauce, you might be impatient and think they’re almost done, but the longer you leave them in the sauce, the tastier they become. So let them sit in there, on low heat, and marry each other. A match made in heaven.
